The bathroom had a dated early-2000s palette — a bright green quartz countertop paired with a warm cherry wood vanity and a heavy dark-framed mirror. The green surface dominated the small room, pulling attention away from the mosaic tile shower and creating a visual clash with the warm wood tones. The bare window let in light but offered no privacy filtering, and the overall effect felt busy and unresolved despite the room's clean bones.

The Approach

The green quartz was replaced with a honed travertine counter and integrated backsplash — a single piece of natural stone with a gently curved profile that introduces organic softness. The cherry vanity was swapped for a cream-painted cabinet with simple round knobs, quieting the lower half of the room. The dark mirror frame gave way to a light wood-toned frame that opens the wall and reflects the shower tile more gently. A woven bamboo Roman shade now dresses the window, adding texture and warmth while filtering light. A single sculptural wall sconce replaced the overhead fixture, casting a softer, more directional glow.

After Transformation

The bathroom now feels like a different room entirely — calm, grounded, and intentionally simple. The travertine surface brings a tactile warmth that the green quartz never had, and the cream-on-cream palette lets the mosaic tile in the shower become the room's one moment of pattern. An amber glass soap dispenser and a small bowl of natural objects sit on the counter — not as decoration, but as tools of daily ritual. The space invites slowness. It supports the act of washing, of pausing, of caring for yourself without visual noise competing for your attention.
