    Why Your Sensory Profile Matters

Our homes are constantly communicating with our nervous systems.

Through light, texture, color, proportion, and spatial flow, our environments can either regulate us or overwhelm us.

This quiz is inspired by Bronwyn Poole's Design Duality™ methodology — a design approach that merges architectural intelligence with neuroaesthetic principles to create homes that restore, regulate, and resonate with the people living in them.

Your Sensory Space Archetype reveals the kind of environment where your nervous system naturally settles — the spatial qualities, materials, and atmosphere that would make you feel most at home. It's not a diagnosis of where you are, but a compass toward where you'd thrive.

How Your Environment Affects Your Nervous System

The emerging field of neuroaesthetics reveals what many of us sense intuitively: our physical surroundings have a measurable impact on our emotional and physiological state. Environmental psychology research confirms that spatial qualities — ceiling height, natural light levels, color temperature, acoustic properties, and material texture — directly influence cortisol production, heart rate variability, and nervous system regulation throughout the day.

Sensory design is the practice of intentionally calibrating these environmental inputs to support wellbeing. A room with warm natural light, organic textures, and considered proportions activates the parasympathetic nervous system — the body's rest-and-restore response. Conversely, spaces with harsh lighting, visual clutter, and poor acoustic design can keep the sympathetic nervous system in a state of low-grade alert, contributing to fatigue, tension, and difficulty relaxing at home.

Understanding your personal sensory profile is the first step toward creating calming interiors that genuinely support how you live. By identifying which spatial qualities regulate or dysregulate your nervous system, you can make design decisions rooted in sensory intelligence rather than trend — creating a home that functions as a true sanctuary for sensory regulation.
