In Sydney's luminous white light, colour felt elevated, never loud. Ironically, the Californian influences I now live and breathe found their way back to my homeland through this project — a creative stretch and a full-circle moment.
A Joyful Study in Saturation and Pattern
Overlooking Bronte Beach in Sydney, the brief invited risk — a bold exploration of pattern and colour drawing from Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, and Palm Springs. It became a joyful study in saturation, layering, and confident material expression that reflected the vibrancy of Amie and Andy's life by the ocean.
This project required a designer willing to push beyond the expected coastal neutral palette. Instead, we embraced the energy of the location — the intense blues, the tropical greens, the golden warmth of Australian light — and channelled it into interiors that feel both opulent and completely natural in their beachside setting. The ocean views through every window demanded interiors that could hold their own against one of Sydney's most dramatic landscapes.
From the initial concept presentation, the design direction was clear: this would be a home that celebrates colour, pattern, and personality without apology. The clients' confidence gave me permission to push further than most residential projects allow — and the result is a portfolio of rooms that remain as vibrant and relevant today as they were on installation day.
Design That Endures — More Than a Decade of Integrity

More than a decade later, these rooms still feel vibrant, relevant, and deeply personal — the highest compliment any interior designer can receive.
The material palette combined lacquered surfaces, hand-printed wallpapers, silk upholstery, and custom joinery — each element selected not for its novelty but for its ability to contribute to a cohesive sensory experience. The result is layered richness that rewards extended attention without ever feeling heavy. Quality materials, properly specified and installed, develop character over time rather than deteriorating — and this home proves it.
Architectural Layering and Decorative Confidence
Every room in this residence operates on multiple visual registers. The large-scale pattern work — particularly the Chinoiserie wallpapers — creates dramatic backdrops that are then softened and complicated by the furniture plan, the textile layering, and the carefully curated accessories. This approach requires both decorative courage and spatial discipline.
This methodology — architectural thinking applied to decorative design — is a hallmark of my practice. It treats each room as a complete composition where proportion, colour, pattern scale, and materiality work in concert. The effect is interiors that photograph beautifully but, more importantly, feel extraordinary to inhabit. The visual complexity creates rooms you want to linger in, discovering new details with each visit.
